Two days ago, I was blindsided by the news that my dream job was being taken away from me. A week before Christmas, a boardroom full of investors needed to make their 2025 budget so they could remain as comfortable as possible. Because of that, many talented people who broke their backs trying to build a company from the ground up were told that all their hard work was for nothing. Our efforts and livelihoods were swept under the rug because of “difficult business decisions.”
This is a cruel and heartless business that will swallow you whole if you let it. I refuse to be a causality of it. I have worked far too hard and overcome so much to make a career out of my hockey thoughts to allow greed to keep me down. I don’t know what the next chapter is. That will likely take some time to figure out. This little corner of the interwebs will be the bridge to the next opportunity. I love the sport of hockey. I love the Chicago Blackhawks. Doing anything that doesn’t involve either of those seems impossible at this point in my life. I will not turn this off because an out-of-touch CEO thinks I’m not worth keeping around. The last 48 fueled my passion and work ethic to kick into an even higher gear.
So, welcome to “Greg’s Chirps.” I’m excited to see what can evolve from my strange brain and keyboard. This will be a Blackhawks-focused newsletter. However, now the restraints are off. I will write about whatever is rattling around my head. I’ll cover the rest of the NHL and hockey world in general. Maybe I’ll be inclined to share my thoughts on other sports. I’m sure there will be some music talk, maybe some movies. Oh, you can’t forget trivia! The possibilities are endless.
The outpouring of support this week has been overwhelming. It has brought me to tears numerous times, but it has also inspired me not to feel sorry for myself and to strive for something better. I thought I had my dream job, but I realized it was just another rung in the ladder towards my ultimate dream. Thank you for helping me climb up it.
